Arthur Cox
Cox has managed many clubs over the years and his reign in charge at Newcastle lasted four years. He famously brought Kevin Keegan into the Newcastle squad in 1982 and helped Newcastle to promotion to the first division at the end of the 1983-84 season. At Newcastle he also brought in flair players, such as, Chris waddle and Peter Beardsley. He has also had spells managing Chesterfield and Derby County, the latter of whom he led to two successive promotions. He has been assistant manager at Man City, Fulham and Sunderland.

Jim Smith
Smith commenced his managerial career at Colchester United in 1972. Between 1975 and 1978 he was in charge of Blackburn and his outstanding guiding at the club earned him the appointment as manager of Birmingham. Smith had spells managing Birmingham and Oxford United before being installed as the man in charge at Newcastle. Smith spent three years in charge at the club; however he was unfortunate during his spell in charge and received the sack in 1991. He soon later on had spells managing Portsmouth and Derby County and is now currently back in charge at Oxford.

George Burley
Burley is without one of the finest managers in football at this current period. He started his managerial career off at Colchester United in 1994 before being installed as the manager of Ipswich Town at the beginning of the 1994 – 1995 campaign. He helped Ipswich gain promotion in to the premier league in 1999 and took them in to them in to Europe as they finished off their premiership campaign of the 2000 – 2001 season in fifth place. He was named as the new manager of Derby in 2003 prior taking charge at Scottish club, Hearts in June 2005. In winter 2005, he was appointed as the new man in charge at Southampton and has already done a fine job at the club since arriving.

 

Roy McFarland
McFarland started off his managerial career at Bradford City during the 1981 – 1982 season before being installed as caretaker manager at Derby County in 1983. He was installed as the new permanent manager of Derby County between 1993 and 1995 before taking the post as manager of Bolton wanderers. He managed Cambridge United between 1996 and 2001 and has been manager at Chesterfield since taking charge in 2003.

Colin Addison
Addison started off his managerial career at Hereford United, helping the club defeat Newcastle United while playing non league football and helping them gain promotion in to the football league. He was installed as the manager at Derby County in 1979 and spent nearly three years in charge of the club, leaving in January 1982. He was assistant manager to Ron Atkinson at Athletico Madrid in 1988 before returning to Hereford for a second time. He was appointed as the new manager of Scarborough in 1999 and later on en ton to manage Yeovil Town.

Brian Clough
Clough began his managerial career at Hartlepool, spending two years with the club between 1965 and 1967 before being installed manager of Derby County. At Derby, he transformed the club and astonishingly helped the club win the league title at the end of the 1971 – 1972 season and established the side as one of the major forces in Europe. He was installed manager of Nottingham Forest in 1975 and went on to spend 18 years in charge at the club, winning the league title, European cup and league cup at the club.
